The USD 332 Board of Education met at 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2012, at the district office, 117 N. Main in Cunningham.  Present were Karl Werner, Kenny Glenn, Amber Panek, Brent Hansen, Steve McKennon, Renee Ruckle, and Scott DeWeese, board members; Superintendent Glen Davis; Assistant Superintendent Suzan Patton; Bob Stackhouse, principal; Jeanette Soukup, clerk; and three guests.
The board approved the agenda for the evening and approved minutes of the March regular meeting as amended.  Following the financial report, the board approved payment of bills in the amount of $249,452.69, including payroll.
Dr. Davis’ report included an update on the legislative session.  Dr. Davis encouraged those present to contact their state representatives for this area to support education.
The renovation of the concession stand area is in the hands of the architect.  Local volunteer labor will be used to remove existing fixtures after plans are approved.
The iPads and carts approved at the March meeting have arrived.
Suzan Patton’s report included discussion of staff development, inservice days and plans to schedule iPad training for teachers.  Mrs. Patton reviewed the District Technology Plan with board members.
Steve McKennon presented the special education report.  The Iuka Learning Center buildings have been sold to the City of Iuka for $1.
Principal Stackhouse added several items to his written list of upcoming activities in his report.  A Junior High Scholar’s Bowl meet was held at Cunningham April 2.  Future meets include Skyline on April 16 and South Barber on April 23.  CHS hosted the league Forensics Meet on April 3.  The annual Mother-Daughter Banquet will be April 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym.  The 8th grade YES program will travel to Barton Community College on April 18.  The D.A.R.E. program for 5th and 6th grade students will be held April 23 – May 4.  CHS Music Concert is April 24 at 7:00 p.m.  CHS Community Service Day is April 25.  The CHS Honors Program at Mosley Melodrama in Wichita is April 26 with 23 students qualified to attend.  State music solos and ensembles are April 28 at Stuckey Middle School in Wichita.  The Athletic Banquet is April 30 at 6:30 p.m.  Tri-State Music in Enid is May 3.  CGS Awards Program is May 8 at 8:30 a.m.  CHS Awards Program is May 8 at 10:00 a.m.  The CGS Music Concert is May 8 at 7:00 p.m.  CHS Graduation is May 10 at 7:00 p.m.  8th Grade Graduation is May 14 at 7:00 p.m.  Congratulations go to Andrea Vierthaler who placed 10th in the State Spelling Bee.
The Board approved a draft of the 2012-2013 School Calendar.  School will start August 29 with the first semester ending on Dec. 21 and school resuming on Jan. 2.  The calendar includes a week of Spring Break (March 18 – 22 plus the weekends).  The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 22.
The Board approved the District Technology Infrastructure Goals and Objectives (technology plan) and thanked Mrs. Patton and the staff who served on the team which developed the plan.
The Board accepted the resignation of Frank Meisenheimer as Board Attorney.  Mr. Meisenheimer has recently been selected as District Judge for the 30th Judicial District.
Members of the Board, the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Principal met in executive session to discuss matters pertaining to non-elected personnel for ten minutes, from 7:35 to 7:45 p.m.
Upon returning to open session, the Board approved a motion to offer a contract to Hannah Barilla to teach 5th Grade next year.   The Board also approved a motion to contract with Donna Whiteman, Kansas Association of School Boards attorney, to serve as attorney for the district.
The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
